Matching
There are three main ways that families and sponsor groups are matched:
Afghan Welcome Project - led matching:
The Afghan Welcome Project identifies families and finds a suitable volunteer group for them. This approach means properties can be chosen with a specific family’s needs in mind, helping them move more quickly into a stable home.
Home Office-led matching:
A sponsor group that already has access to a property can offer it to the Afghan Welcome Project Sponsor, who will in turn offer it directly to the Home Office Matching Team, who will then allocate a suitable family.
Local Authority-led matching:
In some areas, particularly where families are in temporary accommodation, Principal Sponsors work with Local Authorities and Strategic Migration Partnerships to match them to available homes locally.
All three routes follow the same “one-refusal policy”, meaning that if a family turns down a suitable property, they will move to the ‘find your own’ pathway instead.
