Training

All CfA sponsor groups will receive training from the International Rescue Committee (IRC). The training is practical and designed to help you feel confident and supported.

You’ll have access to:

  • Core training, covering the application process, safeguarding, pre- and post-arrival support.

  • Specialist sessions, on topics such as English language (ESOL), interpreting, volunteer wellbeing, gender-based violence, Universal Credit, and school integration.

  • Monthly drop-ins with “experts by experience” and regular newsletters sharing tips, tools, and success stories.

  • Application Guidance: Step-by-step help with completing the sponsor group application.

  • Pre-Arrival Support: What to expect and how to prepare for a family’s first 72 hours in the UK.

  • Post-Arrival Support: Helping families settle in, connect locally, and build independence.

  • Trauma-Informed and Culturally Aware Practice: Understanding how to support families with compassion and sensitivity.
