Sponsorship Groups

The Role of Sponsor Groups

Sponsor groups are at the heart of this programme. Each group will:

  • Find a suitable home with a private front door (HMO type accommodation can be used for single adults or couples).

  • Provide tailored support for a person, couple or family, helping families settle and become independent.

  • Ensure families can access English classes, healthcare, education, and work opportunities.

  • Help families build confidence, friendships, and self-sufficiency.

This is practical, relational work — walking alongside a family as they rebuild their lives, and being part of their story of hope and new beginnings.

Support You Will Receive

Every volunteer group will be supported by their Principal Sponsor (Pickwell Foundation, Charis, Caritas, or the Social Justice Network, depending on where you’re based).

You’ll receive:

  • Training and resources — including online and in-person sessions from the International Rescue Committee (IRC).

  • Peer-to-peer support - connecting with other groups for shared learning and encouragement.

  • Practical guidance - on housing, integration, safeguarding, and local partnerships.

  • Financial support, including:

  • An ability to apply for a fund as needed, to help secure housing and prepare the home.

  • A financial per person per month Local Authority contribution to help with rent top-ups.

  • Advice on how families can access Universal Credit, Housing Allowance, and Child Benefit.

Your Principal Sponsor will be with you every step of the way, helping you plan, problem-solve, and celebrate milestones as the family settles in.
